78 Magazine is a community-focused publication based in Jasper, Alabama, dedicated to telling the stories of Walker County and its people. Launched in 2012 by Blanton Media Group, the magazine features in-depth profiles, local sports coverage, real estate insights, and community highlights. Its signature section, "Soul of 78," captures the heart of the region through personal narratives and interviews with residents who shape the community. With a commitment to celebrating local culture and fostering connections, 78 Magazine serves as a vibrant reflection of life in northwest Alabama.
Results
During my internship with 78 Magazine and Talegate, I had the chance to dip my toes into the world of editorial storytelling— and quickly realized how much I loved it.
I contributed a handful of feature pieces that let me explore my own community through a new lens, writing about the people and places that give Northwest Alabama its unique charm. From brainstorming story ideas to refining final drafts, I learned how to craft engaging content that stayed true to each publication’s voice while still sounding like me. Though my time was short, it left a lasting impact — and gave me a real appreciation for the power of local stories done right.
